A comparative analysis of Alexandrium catenella/tamarense blooms in Annaba Bay (Algeria) and Thau lagoon (France); phosphorus limitation as a trigger ArchiMer
Hadjadji, Imene; Frehi, Hocine; Ayada, Lembarek; Abadie, Eric; Collos, Yves.
Environmental conditions ultimately leading to blooms of the toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium catenella/tamarense were investigated at two Mediterranean sites (Annaba Bay, Algeria and Thau lagoon, France). Three years were examined in details: 1992 (a pre-Alexandrium period), 2002 (a year with the first bloom in Annaba) and 2010 (a year with a major bloom in Annaba). Most conditions were similar, but ammonium concentrations were much higher in Annaba (up to 100 μM) than in Thau (up to 10 μM). First records of A. catenella/tamarense were in 1995 for Thau and 2002 for Annaba, and coincided with soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) decreasing below a concentration of about 1 μM. No other environmental variable could be related to those blooms. Thus, it is likely...

A Multidimensional Homo Economicus: Cultural Dimensions of Economic Preferences in Four Countries AgEcon
Ehmke, Mariah D.; Lusk, Jayson L.; Tyner, Wallace E..
Previous work in experimental economics reveals specific differences in economic behavior, especially reciprocity and free-riding behavior, across cultures. We expand the possible pallet of cross-cultural behavioral differences that may exist. We hypothesize that different kinds of strategic interaction and individual decision-making behaviors differ across locations. The variety of experiments we use allow us to report multidimensional rather than just single dimensional differences in behavior across locations. In order to build a broad Homo Economicus we conducted economic experiments in four dissimilar locations: Hangzhou, China; Niamey, Niger; Grenoble, France; Manhattan, Kansas; and West Lafayette, Indiana. Each subject completed an ultimatum...

A new species of the Marphysa sanguinea complex from French waters (Bay of Biscay, NE Atlantic) (Annelida, Eunicidae) ArchiMer
Lavesque, Nicolas; Daffe, Guillemine; Bonifacio, Paulo; Hutchings, Pat.
A new species of Eunicidae, Marphysa victori sp. n., has been identified from Arcachon Bay, Bay of Biscay, NE Atlantic. This new species, belonging to the sanguinea complex, is characterised by branchiae with long filaments from chaetigers 26–34, the presence of four types of pectinate chaetae with first ones present from chaetiger 2, a large number of both pectinate chaetae and compound spinigers, and the pygidium with only one pair of pygidial cirri. An identification key for European species of the genus Marphysa is provided.

A redescription of the Sea Anemone Bunodosoma Biscayensis (Fischer, 1874) (Actiniaria, Actiniidae) Naturalis
Hartog, J.C. den.
Bunodes biscayensis Fischer, 1874, a species of Actiniaria described from Moulleau, Arcachon, south-western coast of France, and never recorded since, was rediscovered in July 1985 and found again in 1986 and 1987 in several localities along the French "Côte Basque" between the mouth of the river Adour and St. Jean-de-Luz. The species is here redescribed and referred to Bunodosoma Verrill, 1899, a genus of tropical and subtropical Atlantic and West-American intertidal and shallow water forms, hitherto not recorded from the Mediterranean and/or the Atlantic coast of Europe. Speculations are advanced as to the possible further distribution of B. biscayensis. A discussion is added concerning the morphological terms verruca and vesicle. The study is completed...

A standardized description of European Sminthuridae (Collembola, Symphypleona), 3: description of seven species of Sminthurus, including four new to science Naturalis
Nayrolles, Pierre.
The following three species are redescribed: Sminthurus viridis (Linnaeus, 1758), Sminthurus nigromaculatus Tullberg, 1871, and Sminthurus multipunctatus Schäffer, 1896. Four new species are described from France and Spain: Sminthurus bourgeoisi n. sp., Sminthurus bozoulensis n. sp., Sminthurus leucomelanus n.sp.,and Sminthurus hispanicus n. sp. The importance of the ontogeny of chaetotaxy is stressed. Indeed, not all species acquire the secondary chaetotaxy in the same instar, and for these characters the most informative instar is not the adult but the third juvenile instar. The study of such characters involves the clustering of similar characters. A short discussion is given about this issue (selection of characters and clustering criteria).

Acquisition de donnée en continu sur la matière particulaire de la Baie estuarienne de Marennes-Oléron pendant le bloom printaniter planctonique : effet sur le taux de filtration de l'huître Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer
Heral, Maurice; Razet, Daniel; Prou, Jean.
The continuous obtention of different signals has been achieved for 9 days at a -fixed station during May 1988. The speed and direction of the currents have been monitoring concurrently with "in situ" turbidity and fluorescence in relation with the meteorological conditions. The concentration in particulate matter and the planktonic fluorescence fluctuated in direct relation with the water depth, the speed of the current and with the origin of the water masses. The oysters submitted to these large fluctuated conditions showed not constant filtration rate. The filtration calculated by turbidimeters (2 1 h-l g-1 dry weight) was three time less than the one achieved with fluorimeters (61 h-l g-1 dry weight). The filtration rate were fluctuated but not in...

ADDITIONALITY OF CREDIT GUARANTEES FOR U.S. WHEAT EXPORTS AgEcon
Diersen, Matthew A.; Wilson, William W.; Dahl, Bruce L.; Satyanarayana, Vidyashankara.
The value of credit guarantee programs has recently been called into question. Credit guarantees are important marketing tools in the world wheat market, both to develop new markets and to compete in existing markets. This study examines the additionality of export credit guarantees. Empirical demand models were developed and estimated using pooled data among importing countries. Models were estimated for each of the principal exporting countries providing export credit guarantees: the United States, Canada and France. Additionality of credit guarantees were also contrasted to the Export Enhancement Program. Positive additionality was found for CCC guarantees, indicating that the GSM programs have resulted in additional exports that would not have...

Agrarpolitische Interessen Frankreichs und Deutschlands – Gemeinsamkeiten und Divergenzen unter sich ändernden Rahmenbedingungen AgEcon
Ahrens, Heinz; Lippert, Christian.
The aim of this contribution is to examine how the French and the German positions on agricultural policy have developed since the foundation of the EEC and what the driving forces were behind. The “general consensus” underlying the EEC treaty, and according to which the common market would be “conquered” by France in the case of the classical agricultural products, could not be translated into practice; for what emerged for these products was not a customs union but a “price support union”. As a consequence French intra-community agricultural exports had to be redirected to the world market. Thus initial positive French income transfers via intracommunity trade were transformed into transfers from the EC budget, an evolution that can be interpreted as a...

An analysis of seafood consumption survey methods in France. ArchiMer
Girard, Sophie; Mariojouls, Catherine; Paquotte, Philippe; Wisner-bourgeois, Claude.
(Not controled OCR) The different statistical data sources available for seafood I consumption analysis in France belong to three types : the apparent consumption estimated on the basis of a balance between production and trade, used at national scale and for international comparison, the data in value published by the national Institute for economic statistics, aggregating food balance sheet, and economic results of inquiries about the activities of the branch industries, and the household consumption estimated through consumers' panels. A critical and historical analysis of the different available data series is presented, with focus on the major difficulties when interpreting and cross-checking the data (series breaking-nomenclature items, range of...

Analyse des captures accidentelles de mammifères marins dans les pêcheries françaises aux filets fixes ArchiMer
Morizur, Yvon; Gaudou, Olivier; Demaneche, Sebastien.
During the years 2008 to 2013 several observations of catches were planned on board of set netters fishing in the bay of Biscay, in the English Channel, in the North sea and in the Mediterranean area (around Corsica). All the observations were done on nets without pingers and they were pooled to provide an average bycatch rate of marine mammals by fleet. Estimates of annual bycatch by using the fishing efforts of the year 2012 were provided by fleet. Harbour porpoise Phocoena phocoena was the most common bycatch in set nets. An average annual estimate of 600 harbour porpoises was obtained for the French fleet; other species recorded in set nets were mainly common dolphin Delphinus delphis, striped dolphin Stenella coeruleoalba and the two species of seals...

Analyse quantitative et qualitative des captures de tourteaux Cancer pagurus par la flottille de Manche-ouest ArchiMer

French potters from « Manche ouest » harbours ish edible crab Cancer pagurus in English Channel, Iroise Sea and along north Biscay Bay shelf. Monthly landings of the offshore fleet analysed from logbooks for the period 1985-1987 indicate changes in fishing areas. The mean length of males, the mean length of females and the sex-ratio have been analysed by Principal Component Analysis in 1981-1987 samples. The heterogeneity between catches from different statistical rectangle (30 x 40 nautical miles) was great enough to deduce a way of raising composition from samples to total landings. It also offers the possibility to verifiy and correct declaration on geographical origin of landings.

Approche microbiologique de l'anchoitage. ArchiMer
Campello, Francois.
The maturation of salted anchovies leads to a product of particular organoleptic properties. The manufacturers have to resolve many problems. A thorough investigation of the phenomenons which occur is necessary to resolve them. The maturation is conducted at different temperatures. The present paper reports the microbiological variations of the present microfloras, from hyper-halophilic to the non-halophilic, which escort organoleptical and biochemical ones chiefly at 20 degree C. If the maturation's temperature is maintained high (28 degree C) there is a strong proteolysis. At 20 degree C the organoleptical characters appear within 2 months.
